So I will be honest, I never understood the homework here. I mean I get it is to get us interacting with hopefuls and Suicide Girls but is it for members as well? I have noticed a few members doing the homework and the topic is one that I can get on board with so here goes...
Goals... These are things that I have never been good at. I either set goals too high or too low and never in the middle. New years resolutions are in the same category. Recently since joining SG I noticed that this has changed about me. I cannot say that it is because of SG nor can I not say so. SG has given me so much and shown me that it is OK to be the dork/nerd/geek I am. In a way I learned to let myself be me and let him shine off line as well as online. through this site I have been able to see myself in others and relate to so many Kick ass awesome people. Even if I were to leave this site now (yeah right), I would be a better person for having met those that I met here.
Back to point, For no reason other than I saw it to be a great cause I took it upon myself almost three years ago to be an advocate for Breast Cancer awareness. I have done the Making Strides walk in my area for the past two years, this will be my third and I plan many many more in the future.
This last year,I along with about thirty to forty people raised over a thousand dollars in less than 3 months. That is a shit load of money considering over half of them were college students. It was an awesome feeling because when I brought this to the table of the psychology club meeting, one of the professors laughed at me for proposing this amount and was told it has never and would never happen with this small of a campus... Challenge Accepted!!!
This year I decided to get a head start on my goal of doubling the amount. The team site is up and running now and I have six months to raise this money and I believe it will be possible just because it is such a great cause.
I chose making strides because not only do they provide larger funding for research but they also help the patients suffering from breast cancer. For instance if a person is in need of a specialist out of their area they will provide transportation and even housing in come cases. Now I am sure there are certain qualifications for this but the fact remains not many organizations can boast this claim.
I know that money is tight for everyone and people usually shut down after three sentences of I need help funding.... But in a community that is based on breasts large and small among other parts of the beautiful female body. I think this is a great place to speak about my goal for the year. This goal is not my only one but it is my most prized. I intend on keeping people updated on my progress and will probably make some of you annoyed but that is OK.
If anyone is wanting to donate do the research and find an organization suited for you if you wish to help message me and I will send you a link, either way I feel it is everyone that has breast, loves breast or knows someone with breasts to get involved in some form or manner.
Oh and men... You are not out of the woods Breast Cancer can happen to you as well. Just sayin'. Look into it.
