so far here is my favorite thing i have heard/learned today, that is quite appropriate for discussion on this site. when learning about edouard manet's "olympia," clearly a take on titian's 'venus of urbino'... my art history teacher says, "you know everyone tried to make the dog in 'venus of urbino' represent loyalty and marraige in the painting,
but as for the cat in 'olympia', the play on words is the same in french, as it is in english, it suggests paintings like this are and have always been about the pussy...cat."
