My son's doctors' appointment yesterday went really well. His lungs sounded great, and his throat looked good, his tongue wasn't swollen, and his lymph nodes are back to normal.
I went there with my teeth out, armed with pages and pages of highlighted information about Kawasaki disease, because I was NOT going to leave there unsatisfied like I did last time. If I had listenend to my gut, I would have insisted that first doc he saw gave him antibiotics and then he would never have had strep and pneumonia at the same time. Assholes. Anyways, this new doc was wonderful, she took time to talk to me about my research and his symptoms and agreed to do another blood test and scheduled an cardio-echo for a couple weeks from now. She assured me that his platelet count was normal last time, and I know that means at about 97% he doesn't have the disease. When I showed her that his hands were peeling, she told me that in very severe strep cases, the palms will sometimes peel. I didn't know that! She said, "Not many people do because usually a doctor catches it before it gets to that point". Grrrr.....I am so mad that they didn't catch his infection the first time, much less notice signs of Kawasaki going on. Idiots. I just won't take him to any other doctor but this new one.
He went back to school today, and tomorrow is his Valentines day party, so he's all excited. He gave extra suckers to all the girls (most of his friends are girls) and gave the big Valentine to his best friend/girlfriend Ciara. She's such a cutie pie.

UPDATE:
Right after I typed this out, his doctor called me and said his bloodwork from yesterday as well as his throat culture from last week came back and his cedrate (sp?) count is too high, and he never had strep. That means his symptoms still indicate a very atypical case of Kawasaki's . He starts aspirin treatments today to thin his blood until we can get the echo done and see what's going on. Hopefully they can get us in there early next week. I have to track down my husbands medical records and the doctor who treated him when he had it so that we can compare the two. From what I know so far, they have both presented with similar atypical symptoms. God, I'm so tired of worrying...I can't anymore, my stomach is killing me. I'm not even going to think about it anymore until he gets his echo.
Parents- do me a favor. Go hug your kids. And listen to your instincts.
