it's so rare that my entire immediate family gets together. sad that it took a funeral to make it happen. i was only in minot for about 13 hours, but it seemed a lot longer than that. i hadn't really prepared myself to see my grandfather dead in a coffin. i had a hard time when they closed it. i wanted to see him again. some local airforce cadets presented my grandmother with a flag for grandpa's time in the navy (total cutie).
there were a lot of grandpa stories going around. he was buried with a deck of cards (he was an avid pinochle player) and a jar of strawberry jam (he never had a meal without a piece of whole wheat bread slathered in strawberry jam.
my nieces and nephew certainly lifted the mood when the funeral was over. buncha goofballs. my nephew, aiden, is walking now. he's 18 months and 37 pounds. a big chunk of baby. avery just started kindergarten. she's bored with colors and shapes because she knows them already. ariel is turning eleven next month and wants me to come to her slumber party. as much as i would love to spend the night with a dozen giggling fifth graders, i think i'll pass.
