So I've been stressing lately about my medical condition and my upcoming trip. Should I go? Should I not go? In the end I said fuck it I'm going. I haven't had a vacation in 2 years and I need one. I'm feeling a lot better than I was last week and the drugs are doing their trick, but I fear I am going to...

The primary reason for the conversion is to get on the same platform as our parent and sister companies. They're all running Nortel.

Overall, it's a good thing for me. We have people in Phoenix and Los Angeles who know Nortel switches inside and out. Once they take over the management responsibilities of our PBX, I get to move into a better job. smile

I've been laid up for the past week with an infected cyst. Not fun. The worst part is over though so it's all downhill from here. Still sucks.

I have seen so many episodes of west wing I could go the rest of my life without seeing another. Bravo was running a marathon while I have been laid up on my couch.

seattle in a...

Complacency is too dangerous. Rants can be a good thing when they come from someone who's at least willing to listen to an opposing view. Agreeing to disagree is very cool, in my book.

The military isn't inherently evil. It is my personal experience that those in command of the armed forces are good people who are sometimes forced to make a lot of unpopular decisions in support of the greater good.

If someone can supply evidence that Iraq is not going to be better off in the long term, I'd like to see it. I cite post WW2 Germany and Japan as points of reference. In both cases, it took extreme military action - magnitudes greater than what we've done in Iraq - to end the murder and tyranny, and the long term result is that Germany and Japan are significant economic powers

I do think people were lied to to gather support for the invasion of Iraq. I believe Bush is one of those victims. Bush had his own agenda in that Saddam should have been ousted during his father's presidency, and he needed a reason to finish the job.

I think the biggest culprits behind the deception are the ones who are now making the big profits from government reconstruction contracts. Bush was convinced by those guys (yeah, I'll come out and say it - Dick Cheney and Halliburton) to go forward with the attack.

I'm not surprised.

The armed services lie to recruit people

Where are the republicans now?

"ultimately I think the burden of proof is on those who are vocal supporters of this war and this President. If I counted myself among them, I'd certainly think long and hard about joining. During World War II, men and women rushed to enlist regardless of money, career, family, or...

Nothing new there I'm afraid. It's just with the progession of time makes the "I told you so" more tragic.

I'm going to try to make it out if I can get D's sister to watch the kids. So we'll see.

One of the problems is that the military is often forced to hire bodies over brains.

It doesn't matter if I score over 150 on my IQ tests...not being able to finish a 1.5 mile run in 12 minutes excluded me from the Air Force Academy. A pair of broken ankles that didn't heal quite right as a kid did me in.

I talked to an officer recruiter in 2003 and was well on my way to joining...then cancer struck.

My father served 20 years in the Navy. I have an uncle currently serving in the Air Force. Another uncle served in the Navy around Vietnam. A third uncle spent 20+ years in the Air Force. My paternal grandparents both served in the Air Force - my grandfather joined when they were just splitting off from the Army Air Corps and became one of the first recruits to work his way up to the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sargeant. My maternal grandmother just retired as a court reporter for the Air Force. My father-in-law is a high ranking officer at the Pentagon.

Military life is in my blood. I've never been pressured to join any branch of service, but I've always wanted to serve. In fact, I was in talks with the Navy to get me into one of my dream jobs working at the NSA when the whole fucking cancer issue came up. That officially killed the last hope I had of military service.

I can bust my ass and eventually work through the pain in my ankles long enough to get my physical scores high enough. There's shit I can do about lymphatic cancer.

I've known many people who would give up their current jobs for military support roles, but even stateside military personnel must pass the physical requirements.

So Monday night I went to see The Decemberists with geckogirl, Llona, Bossanova, and one of Bossa's friends. I like the Decemberists, but I like them even more now. They put on a really good show and I had a good time.

Work is good. I have been given more responsibilty, which is a good thing. I'm unsure about my job right...

Yeah, I know that dilemma. I think you have to approach people on the net in the same way you do in real life; there are some people with whom you have a solid relationship and can be engaging with, and there are others for whom you're just more of an open ear.

Like Destro, for example: We bicker and brawl and say what we mean and mean what we say with regards to one another. Major Bludd, on the other hand Nice guy; he came to my birthday party But its really not my place to put his life back in order. I can sympathize, but no one put a gun to his head and made him buy that chitlin ranch...

I guess I should update.

Saturday I changed my brakes out, finally, and went to photochic's photography exhibit thing. I wandered around admiring the good art on display, wishing I had a pocketfull of cash. After that I cruised on over to hypermediocrity and sniggitysnaggs' place for their housewarming party. They have a nice new loft that is the shit. Good times.

Sunday...
