A Room With Blue Carpet

I stopped for a moment to let my eyes adjust to the darkness. They didn't adjust much. I had thought the light from the hallway would reveal more but it seemed to get swallowed up by the darkness. I pulled out my lighter and lit it, taking another step into the room. A couch. Red I think. A wooden chair... Another wall...another door. I moved closer to the other door. Was that a lightswitch?...yes. I flipped it and the lights came on. Florescent, just like the hallway. I looked around the room. Blue carpet, red couch, white walls barren of decoration, a wooden chair that looked like an antique. Were there carvings on the seat of the chair? I stepped closer and knelt down to have a look.

"Hello"

I jumped up and around, startled. There was a man standing in the doorway I had just come through. He was about six feet tall and was wearing a navy blue jumpsuit with some kind of circular patch on the right side of his chest, on the left was what looked like a name patch but I couldn't make out the name. His brown hair was short and disheveled, like he had just woken up, and I could tell he hadn't shaved in at least a week or two.

"You shouldn't leave these doors open when you pass through them, friend. It can cause...problems."

He closed the door behind him and walked into the room, taking a seat on the couch and pulled out a pack of cigarettes, picked one out and lit it.

"No thanks," I said as he held the pack out to me in offering. My eyes darted to the namepatch on his suit. I could make out the t at the beginning but the rest was obscured by dirt(?), grease(?). "Who are you? Where am I?"

He took a drag on his cigarette, exhaled, and looked up at me. "My name is John Titor, and in this place it's not so much a matter of where you are, but rather when."

Good! I'm so sorry that I've kept them for so long. I'm not keeping them forever, I promise.
