reminds me of a time, not too terribly long ago when my sweetie, two friends and i were driving to a kmfdm show. snowy night, rolling down the canyon. the roads are bad but not that bad. i am cruising at a safe and reasonable 35 (maybe 5 miles an hour under the speed limit).
a car appears in front of me traveling at a breathtaking pace... oh, about 15 or so. i follow. patiently waiting for the next opportunity to pass. when that comes, there is a cop who has pulled another car over going the other direction so i am unable to pass. i wait some more.
i must mention that i am driving my sweetie's car here and all of the controls are exactly the opposite from the car to which i am accustomed. i try flashing my lights to get the sap in front of me to pull over and the turn signal comes on. then the wipers. we continue down the canyon.
at the first available legal opportunity, i signal and pass the slow-moving driver. i glance at my speedometer as i pass, an even 55 (the limit at this point) and i signal to turn back in. at that moment, my rearview mirror explodes into red and blue. my sweets asks, "what did you do? were you speeding?" "nope," i reply and pull over. here is where it gets interesting.
i shit you not, before i can even roll down my window, he is there. yelling at me. sweating profusely. in short sleeves. "you are going to jail!" he shouts. "i am impounding this car. what right do you have to endanger all of those people? you were going to pass over the double yellow! i saw you signal!" etc. etc. etc.
i simply sat there, fearing for my life as this insane, probably tweaking cop berates me in the driving snow. "give me your license and registration." i comply. he heads back to his car. we sit.
no more than 15 seconds pass and he is back at my door. "you are free to go," he says and hands me my info. i quickly move off into the night. as far away from him as i can get.
