"YEEEEEEE-HAAAAW!!!"

ok. so i had dinner plans tonight with an old friend in town from NYC who also has a place in boulder. he is a pretty avid 4-wheeler type-o-guy and keeps his truck out here for just that purpose. anyhooo.... i get a call as i am on my way to nederland to meet him for dinner.
him: hey, where are you?
dis guy: boulder, on my way up.
him: well... we have a bit of a problem...
he was stuck. somewhere in the woods. northwest of my house.
him: can you come try to find us?
dis guy: no sweat
i gas up the voiture and try to figure out just where the hell he is. now, i don't know if you have ever been to the mountainous regions of colorado but it can get pretty rugged. to top it off, there are about a bazillion roads out there from which one can choose. so this task is a little daunting, but i think i am up for it.
i alternate driving and calling until i finally lose cell coverage. i find a place that vaguely resembles his description. i put her in 4 wheel low and head up. and up and up.
if any of you are thinking, one-lane, semi bumpy with a few turns, think again. at times, this road is MAYBE 4 inches wider than my car. total. rocks, small rivers, big ruts, tight turns. etc.
so about a mile in i spot them walking down the road. we pile into my car and head on up to try to get his d-90 out of the mud bog in which it currently resides. we get a little stuck once but get out fairly quickly. i lose a little paint (probably) here and there but make it through the worst of it. 2 miles later, there is the rover. burried up past the wheel wells in THICK mud. bottomed out too... this could get interesting, i think. so i take some pictures. (will post tomorrow)
fortunately, i have a variety of tools in the back of my truck else i am not sure we would have gotten anywhere. we dig for awhile, then hook up the tow-ropes, then yank like a mother fucker with my car full-throttle forward and his full speed reverse. i think i heard a cork popping sound when he came out of there!
the sun sets, we head back down. fun in the mountains ala stubert.

AND i just have to comment on the dork riding his bike this morning who, not only was riding like an idiot in traffic (weaving, no hands, etc.) but was also sporting a SERIOUS mullet. needed to be run over for so many reasons.
at the risk of offending all mulleted folks out there who may be inclined to read my journal, i have to ask: do you not understand that you got no style? the mullet is bad. very bad. RUN to the barber.
