rode the bicycle in to work today. well... not all the way in but about 25 miles. it was chilly. froze at my casa last nite and i am guessing it was about 35 when i left this morning.

fortunately, it is mostly downhill as i live at about 9000 feet and boulder is about 5800. but the uphills were slaying me. "in shape" is not a modifier that is approriate for use around my name right now.

sometimes i wonder if being good at something is a blessing or a curse. once, quite some time ago, i raced bikes. i was good at it. remembering the day when i could motor up any hill with ease sometimes gets me a little down. as now, i struggle. however, i do know why i quit and have had opportunities and experiences i would never have had if i had not quit racing. i spent ALL my free time on my bike. now... well, now i do MANY more things.

so i suppose i try to look back and say, "wow... you were pretty good at that. you had fun. you were dedicated. and now... you have moved on." and i don't feel so bad that i crawl up little bitty hills in my lowest gear.

ride fast. take chances.
