I have an associate who contends that The Big Lebowski is the Coen Brothers best film. He cites the oddly complex lead performance and how the superficiality of the characters works with the theme, as opposed to how it commonly works against the theme in other Coen films. While I agree it's an enjoyable film, I always liked The Hudsucker Proxy quite a bit better.
