I went to my first "Open Mic Night" at Jake's a bar here in Bloomington. Before you ask, no I didn't sing anything. Although I love my Irish drinking songs I didn't get up to give any rousing renditions, I was just there to support some friends.
Live music is just amazing, I don't know what it is but there is something about live music that, even if its sub par still makes it entertaining. All the people that got up there were really talented, or at least I thought so. Some of you trained in the musical arts probably have a better 'ear' than I do when it comes to judgement, but it got me to thinking....about all that talent out there that never really gets recognized and just kinda tour the small bar circuits but who I think could do greater things.
Anyways, it was a great night and there were some great songs played like "Santeria", "Brown Eyed Girl" and one of my favorites "Use me up" by Bill Withers.
A last thought, I may have decided that the Guinness is ACTUALLY better in Ireland after the pints I've had at bars here. At first I thought it was the whole aura of having Guinness in Dublin, but its definitely more than that. The piping, the pours and maybe just the quality here isn't as nice in most places.

I always find Mr. Met wldly enterataining.
I also thought it was great that Tom Seaver used to just HATE him and he'd rag on him during all the broadcasts he did. I think it's great that The Franchise, the mets icon had been associated with the team for 35 years and just hated the macot that entire time. Was just creeped out by him.
Oh, and Guiness is legendary in its inability to travel well. It's far from a myth, as many a Liffey Water drinker will tell you. Vodka, on the other hand...
