Oy vey! Today has just been one hurry-up-and-wait after another, and I feel a bit like a cranky, fussy baby that's been forced to stay awake waaaay past her bedtime!

Just got back from the CD101 show at PromoWest. The Dresden Dolls kicked major fucking ASS, man! They did a bang-up cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs". Brian Viglione is the ONLY drummer I've ever...

Went to RedViolet's photography exhibit at the High Five yesterday, and stuck around for Church, of course! Had a fucking blast, as I always do when I get together with SG folks. Kevykev's sexy sidekick, Sean, was wearing a black fishnet top and floor-length leather skirt that totally fucked. with. my. head! (Androgynous goth boys = miao!! ) My big mistake was mentioning this...

Then mental image you have just put into my head of Dopespike and myself in cheerleader outfits kinda makes me ill....I mean I'd have to shave my legs and everythin.....not to mention "things" hanging out of the little cheerleader panties cuzI doubt they would fit. It would be a good stratigy to gross out the other team. smile

Many thanks to my SG Columbus peeps for another wonderful time at Bento on Tuesday night. This has added another handful of names to my Friends List, and this makes me very happy! smile

As of tonight, I am done with my travel scrapbooking until I take another trip. This makes me kinda sad. God knows I could do with skipping town for a little while....

...ANYWHO, Monday morning's gonna totally suck ass, because I've gotta get the car to the shop at 7:30 for a new serpentine belt, and have 'em find out why the hell I've got condensation in my oil again! (Though from all I've researched online,...

I just finished my first scrapbook, of all my travels from Ireland/UK in 2001 to my trip to Germany/Prague last year. Next project: The Canada Album. I'm excited! biggrin

(Now ya gotta understand, this is my equivalent to finishing a song or a painting.)

Fookin' 'ell! WOW!

I've been on this site since August, but just this week I've started to make so many amazing connections. First, there was Bento on Tuesday night. It was the most fun I've had with my clothes on in yonks, and it nearly doubled my Friends List!

Then we went to Church last night. It was awesome to hang out with CarrotJuice and...

My tax refund came in, so I used it as a down payment on some new furniture. Our existing furniture is so bad it's actually making me ashamed of our apartment. I've wanted to replace it, and this was my chance. (Hand-me-down furniture that a guy had in college=bad. Hand-me-down furniture that trees2112 had in college? EVEN WORSE! tongue ) So we're getting a gorgeous red...

Just did my taxes by Telefile. Getting a sizeable refund, though not as attractive as last year's because I'm making more money now. But hey - at least I don't owe!

I've been spending waaay too much money of late...scrapbooking, Mary Kay (my sister's getting started as a consultant, so if anyone in town is looking to buy some...).

I also ordered a fabulously loud...

SG members on ice skates? That sounds funny. Is anybody any good? Doing triple axels or making weird occult figures in the rink?

I never get a refund, but I never pay anything. Its welfare.

By the way, living off the welfare state isn't all its cracked up to be, I want a job, but I have to be sure I get good benefits so I can see a shrink, its kind of a requirement.

Guess it'll have to wait. Until Bush yanks my benefits.

Later,

Tim.

Tomorrow: Inauguration Day. (Or maybe it should be Coronation Day, since the president's power is so unchecked he should actually be an Absolutist Monarch!) puke

Avoid the news media like the plague.

Picked up the Dresden Dolls' CD today, and it fucking rocks! They have the most unique sound I've heard in ages, and that makes me happy! smile

Having recently discovered KMFDM, I'm also going thru...

I've been hooked on In Flame's CD whoracle and colony as well as the Lamb of God cd but that is mostly heavy metal
foxgemini:
I bet you would like Porcupine Tree's In Absentia. Its kind of like a cross between Silence of the Lambs and Pink Floyd or something. I got a complaint that it sounded too radio-friendly, but the band is quite Underground and the lyrics are morbid as hell. If you're into 70's music at all you'll like that.

Other than that I've got a ton of new punk CD's from people's recommendations at my livejournal.

Mclusky, Social Distortion, and Avail are all great. So are the Ramones, I'm sure you've heard of them. Fugazi and Minor Threat are both very good. Clutch is very good, a little more blues-rock than just straight punk, just like Social Distortion has a definite indie country sound.

I personally think Mike Doughty rules, lyrically, and his music has kind of a bounce to it that I really like. However, he's not the least bit goth or dark. Soul Coughing might be more appealing in that respect. That is the band Doughty was the lead singer for in the '90's. Look especially for Ruby Vroom. Its heroin music basically, avant-garde hip hop rock. Could be a hit. However, there are very few people out of my friends that have been at all turned on by them.

If you like art rock, King Crimson has put out several albums in the past few years which kick ass. Think math rock meets classical music. Its weird crap, but I'd love to have someone else listening to them. Look for "The Power to Believe."

You might like Opeth as well. There is a Steve Wilson (of Porcupine Tree) produced one which is mostly acoustic, and then the rest of their catalog is apparently death metal. I'm not into death metal generally, but I remember that KMFDM is really hard, so take it for what it's worth. My friend Dave in Colorado likes their melodic stuff. The acoustic one is titled Damnation.

Portishead would probably do it for you, I'm sure you've heard of them. If not, they sound like a cross between Massive Attack and a Quentin Tarantino film. In fact their first and best album was a soundtrack to a film noir movie.

I love Radiohead too. I managed to pirate Amnesiac through the library, gave the CD back, kept a copy on my hard drive. I have listened to that Amnesiac CD 30 times in the past month. Their sound was so cutting edge. I think Hail to the Thief was forgettable. I couldn't tell you a line from a song on the CD, where I have other songs on Radiohead CD's memorized.

Let me know if you like electronica, and I will give you a bunch of other recommendations for that category. Your profile makes you look like mostly a rock and roll lady though so I'll leave all that stuff out for now.

Bowling for Columbine rules by the way. I am currently ignoring the Conflagration while I type this comment.

Looking forward to meeting the C-bus people, take care.

Tim.
