For me, MY safe place is being on stage in front of a crowd playing original music. There could be 500 people or 1 person in the crowd and as long as they are getting down and connecting with the music all is good in the world!
I played a show at a place called the Squeeky Lizard in Oceans Springs Mississippi, We were the out of town guys and as is typical with most scenes, the crowd left with the local acts (they all were arrogant dickheads), except for one dude, he stayed for the entire set and after the 45 minute ear raping that we gave, he approached us and pretty much told us that we were the best semi pro band he had ever watched play. During the entire show this dude was like a madman, kicking the shit out of the air and making sure every member of the band always had a beer and in between songs we would order him beer and of course shots. That was such an epic night! Dude got his own personal concert and it will remain one of my most memorable shows to date. Even more memorable than opening up for Micheal Graves way down here in Del Rio Texas!!
Keep it real, keep it metal and support your local musicians!!!!
