Honestly, outside of the dorky leanings of this statement its very true...we could learn a lot from Vulcans.
Its this health care debate that has me pissed again...and really, at both sides. Fact of the matter is about .002% of those people yelling back and forth on either side has read it in full and really know what they are talking about when they debate. Everyone else is doing what their party or interest group tells them.
Why?
Human beings are inherently morons. We dont like rational thought. This can easily be seen in religion as well. We have a belief. Someone we trust told us something was true be it God or health care reform will kill your grandma...and we just buy it. Then, we work backwards trying to find reasons to justify what has now become so intertwined in our identities and morals that NOT justifying it would shatter who we are.
So we scrimp and scrounge for 'data' to back up our 'facts' without ever looking at the issue in a rational sense....we look at the facts and let those form our beliefs. To be fair to those debating anything political at least their arguments dont boil down to 'you just have to have faith', but the irony is that stupid political debate is exactly the same as religious debate i.e. my god is better than your god.
People, by in large have no solid evidence either way....because they wont look for real facts...because they might find something to the contrary which would break them as a person....because this belief is so ingrained in who they are.....because someone they trust told them it was so. (and modern day 'journalism' isnt helping one damn bit)
So really...its not that we could learn a lot from Vulcans...its that we need to stop telling people whats true, need to stop making our children go to church, need to stop with politicians telling people that 'these are the facts' and let people decide for themselves. If you choose not to care....fine, you dont get a say/vote/option.
Until we are able to let facts, real cold hard facts, stand up for themselves without a spin or agenda then its all fucked from the get go.
