Exaaaaactly. The genre was completely bastardized. It's basically if like, say, Justin Timberlake and a bunch of assclowns got together and started a radio pop band and called it black metal and somehow got popular, regardless of how far from Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, and whatever else it sounded nothing like. Then, suddenly, a whole slew of other copycat assclowns start radio-pop bands and call themselves black metal. All of a sudden, the whole genre of black metal has been reinvented, but with a more accesible sound. It makes me want to choke people.

As much as it is silly to like something less because other people do, I drink that Kool-Aid. For me, I have to feel something is special to me to really wrap myself in it. I can't get into something that has such vast appeal and that is so easy to connect to others on. When you meet someone who likes Smashing Pumpkins, it's never any big deal. Tons of people like Smashing Pumpkins. Or the Beatles. Or whatever else. But when you meet someone who likes, say, You & I, it's a connection on a whole nother level.
