From personal experience, it's a matter of trust. If you dated for awhile and it didn't work out, but everyone played fair, then you can still have fun as friends. Hang out, *maybe* sleep together occasionally. But if the whole thing blew up and in the process you lost your trust and/or respect for someone, then stop answering their phone calls. They're a waste of your valuable time.

Unless she's really hot and you don't have another date lined up. Then you say "still friends" and fuck her brains out, THEN stop answering her phone calls.
