I once heard about the capture and taming of wild elephants for use in circuses of the past. It was said that when a wild elephant was captured, a large chain would be required to restrain it. The elephant would fight and pull at the chain in a vain attempt at freedom. After a time, the elephant would tire and his battle would become more sporadic and less fierce. The chain would then be removed and replaced with a rope. This would be enough for the occasional tug and after a while, even these attempts would fade and the elephant would no longer fight at all. All that was required, was to remind the elephant that it was still restrained. So the rope was replaced with a string. Finally, the elephant would forget the purpose of the string, forget that it was restrained. Having been bound for so long it would settle into the routine and consider its state a normal one. The string would be removed, the elephant would be free, but the elephant would not move, would not attempt escape. It would obediently stay in its place. It had learned that this was how things were. Being restrained was natural. In some cases, the elephant would actually refuse to leave the area of confinement even when coerced.

The only real difference is that we cry victory over tyranny when the chains are replaced with rope. We cheer and rejoice in our freedom when the rope is then replaced with string. And when finally the string is removed and we are left unbound, we believe that all is good and right. We become passionate, we even volunteer to defend this state of affairs with our very lives.

We fight for our "FREEDOM" (is slavery). War IS peace. i S g T n R o E r N e G n T c H e. And don't you just HATE (love) Big Brother?
