Good and bad. First the bad.
Whenever I try to open/save a file using the Open/Save dialogs, the MBP starts searching for my G5, which is not accessible because I'm not on the network at home. I can hit cancel, but the application will still hang waiting for it. Eventually another dialog will come up saying the connection failed. ... the application is still hanging.
I tried rebooting, turning the network on/off, switching networks,... The only thing I can think of is that the Open/Save dialog is going to the last folder I was in, which must have been on the G5. I can't find whatever preference file must be saving that last viewed folder.
Holy crap, it responded. I guess I should let it sit. For an extraordinary long time.
The good news. One of the senior producers called (the one who saw my work and wanted me to come in for meeting and gave me this freelance job) and says she's working on getting me moved into the main building, so I can actually be near the graphics department. Instead of working across the street, sharing an Avid editing suite with an editor working on Dating On Demand ** where editors typically work by themselves. Plus we're taking the workstation that I've been using lately (which is good/bad, it's fast and powerful but sometimes acts weird, my last machine which was slower, was rock fucking solid. I wonder if I can get it wiped and reinstalled.)
She also said she's gonna get me working on more Sprout work and some Comcast stuff. Nice. I would like to have work to put in my reel from a company the viewer may actually know.
Also the art director will have the files from the archives ready for me in another 15 minutes, so I can actually work while at work again. Yay.
Oh, I solved the open/save file problem. Last night I made an alias ("shortcut" for you Windows kids) to my iTunes music folder on my MBP that links to my music folder on my G5, so iTunes on my MBP would load the iTunes database as if it was my own. It worked fine, but a little slow. I deleted the alias and now everything's normal. Dammit, the music folder alias was such a great idea, too (I got all my playlists, playcounts, ratings, album artwork, and could even sync it to my iPod; I can't edit or sync that stuff up by using iTunes' normal music sharing).
** As a joke, I told my friend I find hot single ladies by watching their Dating On Demand (DOD) reels before it gets aired and they become taken by creepy dudes. It's a joke because there is no contact information. And most of them seem older. And there's also a bunch of creepy looking older guys who right away admit to being virgins. Sad and funny at the same time. Like this. Except he's not of their breed anymore. But still plays lots of WoW. I think.
I think I'm going to go over and get the files, even if they aren't ready yet. Because I'm kinda bored.
A woman sitting next to me on the train was watching me work on the Ashes layout. I wanted to smack her.
