I'm leaving on Sunday for Hawaii. I get to have a little over a weeks worth of vacation on the north shore of Oahu before I get onto a research vessel and head several hundred miles west. I'll be doing blue water diving out there. What the fuck is blue water diving you ask? Well that means that we'll be in water so deep (probably about two miles deep) that we'll never see the bottom. There's also a crazy set of tethers that hooks all the divers together so that nobody can get disoriented and swim off into the abyss. The object of all this nonsense is to collect some little floating gelatinous critters that are too delicate to be collected in nets or that sort of thing.

So anyway, I'm going to be gone until the middle of September. I'm going to be on that ship for a whole month.

Tonight, I'm going to help a german film crew that's out here to film the spawning of the California market squid. Yay, I love squid.
