I had the best and worst experiences all in the same moment today. Our organization bought several new computers in the past months. Since we are an environmental organization we tried very hard to donate the old computers, which we successfully did. Surprisingly, most computers went to schools. Today my boss and I went to one of these schools to help hook up the computers. It was a very nice middle school so my boss asked the teacher why the school couldn't afford computers for the students. The answer? The school is $400,000 in the red. With Bush's "no child left behind" the school has a lack of funding and will be forced to close if they can't improve their test scores by 3% so the school tightened its financial belt and buys nothing! It was the best experience because I felt like I was able to give something positive to the education of our youth, which is such an important cause, and the worst experience because I saw how little education seems to be valued by far too many in our country. I wish the best to the students, teachers, and to the school. I hope they can perform the miracles they need to just to stay open.
