So,I don't really have any idea as to how many of you out in SuicideLand collect records(vinyl folks)or spin(dj kids)
but something I feel I need to comment on is happening in the world of vinyl/electronic music/internet/&among number of other things, buisness.
EFA *is what is known as a Distributor.
This is an entity much along the same lines as a wholesaler in retail.
Sometimes a distributor may even have it's own record label(w/artists).
EFA *is basically the main name in distribution in regards to Europe.
This pretty much includes tha majority of DANCE music not produced in the USA. What that means is that if you have a fav.electronic band from the UK or wherever,it has probably gone through ,you guessed it EFA.
EFA, like all distributors, recieves the product upfront(before paying the Labels for it),then in turn sells it to the stores,
you get the rest I'm sure.
So needless to say it creates this economic cycle that basically boils down to this:if you BUY music>the store makes
money>then the disributor>THEN the label.
I'm not here to speculate as to why(ok maybe a little>people not buying music to play out @venues because people are not going out dancing,or people FILE SHARING maybe)(we all do it)But
But all over the world, wether it top 40 shit or underground electronic obscurity,
people are really having a hard run at making a living.People like Toni Braxton to Techno Label PRIMATE are either being givin the boot by record labels,
or worse going bankrupt.
Here's the cohesion in my journal entry:
basically the World's largest dance/electronic Distributor went bankrupt!EFA filled for bankruptcy ,I believe, last month.
This not only means that it will be much more difficult to obtain wax by your favorite german electro-tekno-booty-whatever group, but it means that these labels will in turn loose money, which in turn means said favorite producer won't be able to put out music anymore.
Now from what I can tell, from talking with label owners, fellow DJ's,&producers
is that either,in a very short while, all dj's will have to resort to spinnign MP3's or dance music culture will collapse.
This is just a mere rant/breaking of the surface of such a topic-all I know is that this is very saddening.
*a good source for info on this subject is:GROOVES(experimental electronic music magazine)NO.13,which is the newest issue.I did not read the informative, well wriiten article when I
posted this recent journal entry>this is an addendum*
