Reeling: from the fact that, on Monday night, I saw an ep of The Simpsons on TV that I have never seen before...
I'm not talking a new ep, either. An old one. Old enough - and well known enough - to be included in this stupid "Best of the Best - Audience choices" bruhaha that they have running at the moment (if enough people vote for an ep it gets included... you get the idea).
Now, I've been watching this show for HALF MY LIFE so it's really, very, really surprising to have not seen one...
Anticipating: my 29th birthday tomorrow. One sleep!
Embarking: on a new diet (ho hum). About 3yrs ago, I lost a buttload of weight (16kg or about 35lbs, I think it works out as). Then, over an extremely turbulent, painful, confusing year last year, I put the whole muthafuckin' lot back on. So now, I'm beginning again - time to get it back off. Wish me luck, y'all.
(Actually, it ain't that hard when the weather is good and my heart is safe but starting is always the killer...)
Reading: Gut Symmetries, Jeanette Winterson. Love her, love her work.
Preparing: to scan and upload a bunch of new pics (including a new profile shot as that one seems really foreign to me... it's an old shot). I got new technology at home - woo hoo! I'll even include some trashy shots of me and mine at my birthday party (Sat 14 aug at vic on the park hotel courtyard, enmore, nsw, australia from 5pm - come on down!)
Kissing: each of you. Seriously. I have been having wet dreams every night this week and one certain person from my friends keeps popping in to say "ooohh, aaahhh, yes, yes" at all the right moments...

yes, new project ... basically, i am writing my own burlesque show to explore how the act of what i am calling hyperfeminity - a sort of female in female drag that excessively performs adherence to social expectations - opens up a space for subversive sociopolitical work through satire. i'm using the bakhtinian carnival, and assorted feminist performance theory (the explicit body, the appropriate body) to tease out the theoretical possibilities, and satirizing such things as the menstrual industry and the cult of female food depravation. my favorite set concept so far is a sort of giant altar with alternative menstrual gear on it. rock. i've defended my propsectus and completed orals, so its a go. yay. now i am terrified!
your work with the mardi gras was part of the inspiration for shifting gears!! it sounded so cool and fun, so i opened my mind in that direction. i lurve burlesque and viola ~ things came together.
