Bean gets most of his black "abnormal" clothing at American Apparel, Urban Outfitters, and Lip Service.
For him, it's all in how you put the clothes together.
Urban Outfitters has a surprising amount of men's military-styled shirts in black that lend themselves quite well to goth-genre styles.
Then of course there are always any DIY upgrades like razorblade slashes or safety pins, although I'm more likely to do that to my clothes than Bean is to his.
Hell, even GAP 1969 black jeans look subversive when paired with boots from GoodGoth and a Lip Service buttondown.
Then there's always JetRag. Bean found an amazing tux jacket there for $10. It looks great with jeans and tshirts.
I've entirely grown out of Hot Topic. Either that or Hot Topic has grown out of me, i'm not sure, because I still wear the clothes I bought at Hot Topic many years ago... but they're not recognizable as "Hot Topic" anymore.
Bean and I joke that our style is somewhere between "grad school goth" and "corporate goth." Normal enough that we don't attract stares, but abnormal enough that we occasionally attract attention. Does that make sense?
