HEROES WAS FUCKING AWESOME!

bob:
I think the point is this:

I know this was more your opinion on your personal blog.

And, a good 85.4% of it was said in jest.

And, if

they released and they are win

Remains to be seen...and I can't speculate on that.

But, the larger issue that I DO have a problem is IS the fact that these are marketed to 10 year old girls.

With recent surveys showing that 97% of young girls play video games why are we waiting on creating a peripheral almost two years after it's launch?

Moreover, why is the marketing that is directed at the female gamer overwhelming geared toward the 10 year old demographic with glittery pink guitars, Cooking Mama, and Barbie's Horse adventure? Furthermore, why is aforementioned marketing riddled with phrases like, "now girls can finally play." As though they were unable to before because of the content/peripherals not being marketed toward them in the first place. Why isn't there anything specifically targeted at the female gamer age 17-25 or *gasp* 30-55? And, when there is something marketed toward these older demographics we get things like Game Stop's horribly degrading attempt at getting women involved in Madden with tag-lines like, "learn plays that will impress any hardcore gridiron fan." Reducing our desire to play a video game to the "need" impress men.

There's nothing wrong with any of the products individually, however when grouped together, they represent a trend that does offend me personally...and I'm entitled to comment on it.

Moreover, it's upsetting to see that this mindset is held, not only by the marketing departments in the industry, but the gamers themselves.

In reading Endgadget's report on the release I was deeply saddened to read some of the reader's comments that included things like:

  • I think a simple Pink faceplate would have sufficed for the 10% of females that play

  • Rockband can be for girls definitely, but not GH3. The skanky outfits and stupid background dancing girls in cages is extremely offensive and every girl I know who plays GH/RB hates that stuff. Personally I also find it lame. Neversoft / Activision are frucking moron a$$holes.

  • Both of thes comments (while on opposite ends of the spectrums) completely miss the mark.

It seems there is no room in the world for hardcore girl gamers...in the market or at home.
