I discovered something new (to me) and stupid today. Tonight was date night with the boy, so we decided to go out to the islands and have dinner at a little place on the beach we like. That was how we learned of the Beach Bum Fest, AKA the Tybee Island Asshole Festival. This well intentioned affair advertises its "world famous parade" (yeah right, I'm sure that half the population of Singapore spent today facing the sad realization that they missed that parade today), live entertainment, luau in the park, volley ball tournament, and limbo contest. It failed to mention in its description, however, the mass of asshats and idiots that would be lining the main drag this evening to shoot, splash and dump large amounts of water onto the windshields of passing cars while supremely stupid frat boys (and worse, small, mostly unattended children) ducked between said cars.

Now, I will give that even a ten gallon bucket of water is removed by gravity and windshield wipers in a few seconds, but during that initial splash the driver is basically blind. This is a concept anyone who has ever had the misfortune of being stuck driving in heavy rain is all too familiar with. Does anyone else see this as a very, VERY stupid idea? Add onto this that the state has been in a state of drought from mild to water rationing levels of severe for some time now and this whole thing just seems like the pinnacle of idiocy. I'd say some of these guys deserve a Darwin award, but the idea there is that someone committed gene pool cleansing and, sadly, the combination of many frat boys, lots of girls in minimal bikinis, and a great deal of beer will likely have the exact opposite effect this evening....
