Time to go home. I'll be leaving here in a few minutes to make the long drive home. It's been a pretty good visit overall.

Went out for dinner last night with my family since it was the last night I was in town. We went to a cajun place we used to visit a lot when I lived at home. It started on kind of a bad note because it was so cold inside for some reason (to the point that my teeth were chattering and several other people in the dining area were visibly shivering. Then we got fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and when they came they were served in a creamy sauce and topped with a blend of cheeses. They used to come as just the friend green tomatoes with a side of a ranch dip. My mom took one bite and went running for the bathroom. The sauce was made with crawfish and shrimp. My mother is allergic to shellfish. When she got back to the table we asked how she knew (the shrimp and crawfish were on the bottom and not visible at that point). Apparently her lips went numb and tongue started to swell as soon as it touched her mouth. The food was good and our server was great, but that sort of ruined the evening.

My parents are probably going to be moving out of the house I grew up in and totally off what has been my family's land for five generations. The county condemned a large portion of the surrounding land and resold it to a developer when the owners refused to sell. What was a rather massive forest is now a barren patch of land being prepared to become a subdivison. The developers have made an offer to buy my family's land now too, so my family has put it up for sale at a price the developer doesn't want to pay. As the law goes though the county can't condemn it and buy it at thier price if it's already up for sale. So far this has kept them away, but this development company has also, so far, gotten every patch of land they've wanted, whether they bought it or the county condemned it and sold it to them, so my parents are shopping for a new house.

That whole thing sucks, but, on the upside, my mom is trying get everything packed and orgagnized and ready to move. This includes all the stuff in her workshop. What is the upside to this? Well, we went through box after box of stuff in her work area and I ended up with roughly (so far, but we haven't finished going through everything) 30 full to overflowing boxes of fabric to take home and use that dates from new (bought in the last five years) to vintage awesomeness. Eveything from over the top florals from the 80's and funky prints from the 60's and 70's to understated designs with rich color from the 50's. I even got a couple of bolts of wool suiting from the late 40's. She is also sending me home with a bunch of patterns that are just as old as some of the fabric! I can't wait to get home to my sewing machine!

Thanks for your response in the dress makers' group.

I am so excited to start sewing again! It sucks to go to work in office suits ... so I really can't wait to make myself a few flowing skirts and tops with lace to wear!

Nietzsche. He tends to be at his best when taken out of context.

I've never heard it put so well.
