Well, the last 20 hours or so have been insane.

Came home after being out having a geekfest for about 6-7 hours. Had a blast, and had plans to invite a couple we were with back here after, but had been out until sunrise the night before and then had only had about 4 hours of sleep before getting up to meet up with this group. We came home with plans to finally get some rest and then lounge around and have a day off today. When we drove up it was wierd. It looked like it had rained, but only around the back off the house and we hadn't seen any rain while we were on the southside. Still, local weather can be strange so we didn't worry. Opened the backdoor to go in and out came the flood.

We had around 4 inches of water standing. The carpet was literally floating. The poor little baby kitten we found in the alley on Thursday was soaking wet standing on a semi-floating towel screaming his lungs out. Pasha was ok and we had luckily set Frankie's crate on a box before we left because I had (ironically) mopped the kitchen floor before we left.

The insurance company was amazing. I called my grandmother freaking out because she is literally the only family member of mine that isn't on a cruise in Alaska and totally out of contact right now. She reminded me that our insurance covers pretty much any bizarre thing that can happen and found the number for me. When I called they had a cleaning crew at the house within an hour even though it was 2am. They removed a couple of hundred gallons of water (which barely scratched the surface) and then tore all the carpet out and vacumed up atleast another half inch of water that had been under the carpet. I didn't catch a number on how much that was gallon wise. The carpet had absorbed so much water by the time they got there that 4-ish square feet pieces of our carpet felt like a bag of bricks.

After that and a couple of hours of nap we had to take a huge load of clothes and stuff (everything that was beneath a certain hieght was soaked with this dirty water) and spend most of the day at the laundry mat. The insurance company told us to keep a tally of time and money that we spent doing that and we'll be rembursed for it all. I thought that was great. We were there for almost four hours and it was a nightmare, but it's done and on the bright side the rembursement includes the dirty clothes that were in my hamper since a good portion of it was beneath the water.

So I'm really tired, cold and getting really annoyed by the sounds of the fans and dehumidifiers that are running in every room, but just sitting down right now feels like heaven.
