First day back at work after 2 weeks wasn't quite what I'd hoped. The job I had been doing for the past six months was effectively eliminated. I got assigned to another project that looks like it will be a combination of busywork, micro-management, and a serious test of patience due to a significant language and time zone barrier. Separately, I got asked by another group to apply for a product management job which would effectively move me from the technical side over to the business and marketing side. While this is more interesting on the face of it, I'm hesitant primarily because product management jobs at this company tend to be about as stable as nitroglycerin. It appears my transition towards the dark side is progressing along nicely.
