how big will your thesis be?

i did an MA, my first one, it was 3 chapters. and that was two too many. my advisor liked them big - almost like mini-dissertations ... but given constraints of tiime and my own ability, it came out sort of hackneyed (i mean, i wrote it in a *year* - you can't do something of that size in a year and have it be any good).

my more recent MA was article length, approx. 25 pages. i liked it much, much more.

i think your attitude to your thesis sounds about right on.... i mean, no one's work is EVER perfect, and especially when you have a really strict time limit (re: graduating), you sort of have to balance utility with quality. so, just doing a good job, but not getting hung up on perfection is the best way to get the most out of the process i think.

breaking it into chapters - a series of essays that lead up to a bigger point - is *really* smart. it makes it manageable. trying to make it one cohesive narrative .. that's *rough.*
