devastator, I read your comment you wrote on here and that was quite possibly the most discouraging thing I have ever read...I am 25 years old and have NEVER had a serious girlfriend AT ALL. I think almost anyone would consider that to be pretty irregular. Mostly for lack of effort I always thought. I was always too shy when I was younger and still am for the most part. It doesn't just happen by itself for me....If I work at it nothing happens (except when I luck out in a big way) and if I don't nothing happens. Maybe this is why I feel so down when I start thinking about things. Maybe I am just meant to be alone for the rest of my shitty life...It always seems that way.
Anyway, I don't think you were meaning to get me all "upset" and I appreciate the thought...I suppose that I will just have to go and figure shit out on my own. I do agree that internet dating sucks...I have spent way too much money...I met four girls over a period of six months of almost daily effort and only two of them were even close to worthwihile, but I only went on a total of four (and a half) dates...It's just like hitting my head against a fucking brick wall. It seems that the three ways you can get together...1. effort, 2. let things happen on their own 3. have people set me up....don't work! I would even be happy to just meet some slutty chick just to make me feel better for a while....
Also in that storm I got a big dent in my car from it getting hit with a cart and my left rearview mirror was practically broken off. Ok...That's all the bitching I have to do for now. I will probably write more tomorrow. Hope you are doing better than me.

You win. what you wrote was a more serious rant than what I wrote. Further, your statements are all valid in the most clinical way.
Then again, I am a paranoid. I've watched the steadily deepening trend in the United States about voter turn out. The number of votes in any given election becomes a reflection of fewer and fewer people's opinion. While, i don't expect it to get to the point of "Futurama" (in which almost 3% turn out to the voting polls was an extraordinary draw), it does beg some interesting questions.
Lets say trends were to continue, and in 20 years (based on current trends, we might expect to see only 35-40% of the voter population actually vote) we have a not bad candidate and a fascist. The economy is bad so the fascist is elected by 20% of the population, which is basically an ignorant, scared, reactionatory group.
Further, the apathy involved is amazingly pervasive. People become steadily more and more divorced from the whole government and the administration of the country. The quality of candidate can freely become worse and worse, because people are basically saying they don't care and it doesn't matter. Instead of a candidate who has a record of cocaine arrests which was expunged, who's to say that we won't have a crack head (albeit a rich one) in office in a decade?
Good people dont' step forward because they've spent their life blaming others for what's gone on, and not taking any responsibility for themselves.
This is the United States. In theory, people other than those related to a "Hussein" or "Bin Laden" family can be the leader of the nation (unlike, for example, half the middle east). However, this'll continue to go from a theory to a total falsehood if people just say "what's the point?" "what can I do?" "who cares what i try and do, nothing i can do has any affect?"
It isn't so much that your vote can't affect anything as the attitude your action portray's. (this isn't an attack, this is reflective of the hypothetical 'you,' meaning any adult). If you meet someone on election day and he asks, "so, did you vote today?" and you say, "No, why bother?" What will he think? Why should he bother?
Ok, so your vote just counted for 2.
Then he talks to someone. Now it's counted for 3. the general sense of hopelessness can spread as easy as a shrug. A well timed (or in this case, poorly timed) shrug can have a devistating affect. People don't LIKE taking responsibility for things like elections. It requires thinking and debating and often, picking the lesser of two evils. But chosing not to choose, to not express your voice and opinion, is also making a choice, and you'll have to live with the consequences with that also.
Making the choice between being shot in the foot and shot in the head is a sucky situation. But, if you're in that kinda situation and you delay too much, they'll probably just shoot you dead and be done with it. The situation with apathy towards government is you aren't just getting yourself hurt. Your hurting yourself, your future children, neices, nephews, that little kid you saw down the street.
About relationships, they suck. like life. All you can do, if you want to be in a relationship, is to be what women want as much as possible, put yourself as far out on the ledge as you can, and hope you get lucky.
And when you fall off the cliff, pick yourself up. You'd be surprised how much women respect THAT.
