I decided some time ago to take a more serious stand against intollerance. This means you, kind old fuddy duddy member of the clergy. If you're a member of a group that discriminates against women and homosexuals, then you support intollerance. Just because your religion is 2000 years old, and your people have been doing this since time immemorial, that does not mean you get to keep doing it. I don't care how old and sacred your beliefs are, intollerance is wrong. I'll quote Bill Maher here: Don't be so tollerant that you tollerate intollerance.
Someone recently termed a catholic priest they knew to be a 'good man.' My definition of a good man is someone who does not encourage intollerance, but fights against it. So either this 'good man' supports an institution that is intollerant, or else he's a hypocrit. And even if he's 'fighting them from within,' he's still counted among their number, wearing their clothes, modeling the behaviour to children and followers alike. Do I get to be free of judgement if I join the KKK, march on Washington, wear the hood, but I secretly tell the members that blacks are actually cool?
