Today was a very exciting day.

Myself and the owner of my tattoo studio met with the region's local health board for a four hour meeting. Our goal today was to try and improve their knowledge of the tattoo and piercing industry and thus improve their inspections. Our area maintains the minimal safety standards in an already unregulated industry. During our last inspection (which we had to request) we realized that they had no idea about.... anything. It was really very sad. I could see it being very easy for a shop to pass, and also put lots of people at risk. (Not my shop of course )

Ours and one other shop are working really hard to try and make things better and safer. I feel it is the first step in getting some type of standards set up in our area. We've starting to see some really scary practices popping up and until there's a higher standard of at least health regulations there's nothing that can be done. But how do you tell that to a 16 year old girl who just got hepatitis.

I'm sorry if i sound like I'm ranting but some people's carelessness infuriates me.
