It's nearly eight am. What am I doing up you ask? I'll tell you! Nothing exciting. My sister just needed a ride to school. Funny how many "best friends" you suddenly have once you get a set of wheels...
Me and my sister left so early this morning that the sun wasn't even up. On the way there I went into a Wawa and for almost a whole second gave a shit about what the people in there thought of my appearance. I stumbled towards the coffee with only two buttons done (not even buttoned right) and completely forgot about my bloodshot eyes, the dark circles underneath them, my hair that was sticking straight up and out like a madmans. It seemed strange when the cashier kept ducking my attempts at conversation.
"Good morning. Hows it going."
"Uhhh."
"Workin hard or hardly workin?"
Avoids my eyes and focuses on ringing up my coffee.
"Ready for that storm that's coming in?"
"That'll be 2.05."
"Thanks have a great day."
It doesn't take much to fuck with peoples heads. Alter their usual pattern the slightest little bit and they start thinking "WHY ME?" "WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS?". Every schmuck on the east coast is wondering why this hurricane had to happen to THEM. As if Isobel was created by an evil scientist who was bent solely on THAT person's specific destruction. Has anyone else noticed that almost immediately after SG Isobel decided to get archived, a storm of the same name comes barrelling through with the same name? Eerie.
You kind of have to respect the people who live in trailer parks and refuse to leave in the face of total annihilation. They may not have much, but they're going to hold onto what they have and not even a hurricane is gonna keep them from it. All these people who live in houses and have yachts and fishing boats were out to mountains before you could blink but those poor bastards out in the trailers are painting targets on the sides of their houses. How badass is that? STUPID, but still bad ass. I'm just glad I have off today. I'm hoping to go driving in it. I love driving in these terrible storms. I love going forty miles an hour on I-95 while people pass me left and right, only to disappear into the mist seconds later. I love when you have to go slower, not because you fear losing control of the car, but because you CAN'T SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD. Sometimes mother nature has to remind us of our place and let us know that we may be getting older and more mature, but the old saying still holds true: She brought us into this world and she can take us OUT.
