Mine is "You can't make everybody happy." This has several parts and a lifetimes worth of impact. I mean it in every interpretable way. I always felt like my goal in life is to be the punching bag, the stepping stone, the therapist, the healer, the good guy, the fixer. All because I'm really good at it. In 1st grade, my teachers told my parents I would be an amazing counselor or therapist or something in the field of psychologically helping people. FIRST GRADE! Fast forward 15+ years to today at 21 years old, I have customers that come in and just tell me their whole lives story or their problems that they're going through. Not the "Oh, I'm going through a divorce, but I'm okay." But the whole breaking down "We met 13 years ago at this study session in Tempe... *insert 13 years of relationships worth of stories and emotions*"  for HOURS! My friends and coworkers all do the same thing. "Broken" girls seek me out for relationships and I fall for it and end up pouring myself into them to fix them. Then, they leave. So... if I knew that I couldn’t make everybody happy at the beginning, then I wouldn't have dedicated my life to putting everybody first. It's very difficult to change from it. But I am learning. I'm important too. I matter. It's okay to put me first. You shouldn't have to hurt yourself to make others feel better. And sometimes, it'll never be enough, sometimes people just take and take.
