The only mildly amusing thing that happened to me this weekend is the story of hunting down and capturing my KMFDM ticket.
Technically speaking, this tale begins the week before when Rob told me he was sorry that he was going to miss the show, because he would be stuck in the field, camping with guns, at the time. After the trudge home after the last song, I hunted online to discover that KMFDM was, in fact, coming to this little town. Specifically they were coming to the Starlight room, a place, its website told me, that required membership to enter. Fortunately membership could be puchased, much in the same way that the Catholic Church had once sold passes to heaven. (The fictional one, not Montreal.)
I registered for my indulgence online, carefully recording the number I was given. Then on Friday (aka payday) I wandered down to the Starlight to pay my ten bucks.
Unfortunately, the bar was closed on that Friday evening (Yes, I too said WTF and many epithets much less likely to be repeated for fear of offending those in the audience with virgin ears). So I lumbered into the bar downstairs to see if I could salvage my trip. After speaking to three people, it turned out I could just pick up a membership from the bartender.
I paid my money and received a card with the number I had painstakingly recorded written in the wrong place with arrows pointing where it should go. Either way, I left fairly pleased with myself. With tickets going on sale Saturday morning, I figured I was well on my way to the concert.
Waking up at 8:30, I set myself for a leisurely walk to the Ticketmaster outlet at the City Center mall. Having purchased Ministry tickets from Ticketmaster a couple of weeks earlier, I was certain they went on sale at 10:00. Having absolutely no confidence in this deduction, I checked online. Of course, it turned out tickets went on sale at 9:30, so I prepared much more hurriedly than I had planned. Still, I had plenty of time to get there.
So I found my way to the third floor of City Center East, where I learned that a store in the largest Mall downtown was, in fact, closed on Saturdays. Since it was 9:15, I had to find a bus top and make my way to Kingsway Garden Mall, which ironically enough, was closer to my home. Too bad it was the opposite direction from where I needed to be afterwards.
I made it to the Ticketmaster at Kingsway. After waiting behind some woman who wanted to vacillate about whether the "Best available seats" actually were the best available seats for her concert at the Coliseum, I finally got my paws on a ticket for the Oct. 9 KMFDM show.
All of which goes to show that piss poor planning on my part will inevitably constitute an emergency for me.
