It's spring. I know this because bicycles are out on the side rides again. This weekend, I witnessed something that was truly striking. By that I mean I wanted to strike someone, of course. A teenaged boy was riding down the side ride without a helmet, which is bad enough. On top of that, he was riding his bike with no hands, which isn't all that safe when you are riding illegally to begin with. But the worst part of it all was that he was six feet away from a designated bicycle path.

i confess, i too am occasionally guilty of taking my bicycle on the side ride. however, in my own defence, that has mostly to do with it being far too dangerouse to ride on a road with anything more than the occasional traffic in this city.

I hate when I see stuff like that. As someone who uses a bicycle as their primary form of transportation I resent that behavior like this makes life harder for me. So many cyclists complain about pedestrian and motorist behavior but then turn around and behave badly themselves.
