Is honesty the best policy?

I just hurt someone terribly by putting a stop to our relationship. A relationship that was great right now, but would have never lasted. She wanted to invest more in it, a lot more, and I cut it short because no matter how much it hurt her now, it would have hurt her a lot more if I ended it after she poured even more of her love and time into it.

I don't think she understood, and in addition to the hurt I caused her, I think she hates me now.

I hoped she'd understand and could forgive me in time.

Edit: well so much for forgiveness. Right now I'd settle for having her just stop badmouthing and lying about me everywhere on this site.
