Well.

Went to the Coldplay concert last night. Have to admit that despite my lack of enthusiasm about the band's music, I still had a pretty good time, though that's mostly because I was in really good company.

Anyway, because I have nothing else to do at the moment, I will now review the concert for your idle pleasure, starting with the opening band out of Vancouver, 'Black Mountain'.

Recipe for Black Mountain:
1 oz. - The Monkees
2 oz. - Evanescence
2 oz. - Nickelback
a dash of Emo

Mix ingredients, sifting out any talent that bubbles to the surface; serve on an uninspiring stage to a disinterested audience.

Now on to Coldplay.

Overall, they put on a good show. If you're a fan of their music, you definitely would have liked it. Chris Martin had a great interaction with the crowd that a lot of artists tend to lack, and the band as a whole was definitely not the sort that only sounds good in a studio after fifty attempts.

That said, excuse while I step onto my soapbox for the following segment. I feel a preachin' coming on.

If you're performing in concert, and you feel the need to pay tribute to a recently deceased artist, PLEASE just practice it once in front of a mirror to test the douche-level. Or at least stick to your own genre of music. Or maybe even cover it in your own style. Because really you never know who might be in the audience, clamping their hands over their ears and fighting back a rising tide of bile.

You see, Coldplay felt the need to pay tribute to Johnny Cash at one point in the show. I can understand this need. I feel it too at random times. Johnny Cash has always had a secure spot at the top of my list of favorite artists.

I watched him get emasculated yesterday. Not only did they perform a nauseating original song that they apparently wrote in honor of the Man in Black, they followed it with the worst rendition of 'Ring of Fire' that it has ever been my misfortune to come across. Some tiny part of me is still hoping that someone spiked my joint with acid, and I simply hallucinated the whole thing.

Other than that though, the show could have been worse. I give it an overall C+, with extra points for effort.
