I've been watching CNN tonight (it's a pretty poor quality news station really, not a patch on Channel 4 news, but anyway...) and biting my nails. Is this really a good time to try to give up smoking? He's 6.6 points ahead of McCain, but...
People lie in polls all the time, people know the Right Thing To Do, and they know the selfish thing to do. Why is altruism and the common good a bad thing? When did Socialism become unAmerican? What does 'unAmerican' mean anyway - Canadian? Austrian? Welsh? Hmmm...it's a strange broken country over there, and it won't be fixed in a hurry. Still, electing the young fella would be a start.
I hope to Darwin they do it! 24 hours to go until the first few bits of results start to swim into focus through the fog. I'm nervous, and yet it won't make a major, direct impact on my life. My day-to-day life has been largely unaffected by Dubya's calamitous bumblings through the past eight years, apart from the inconvenience of having to take off my shoes at airports (I always forget, and wear my Docs for travelling...), but The Fool has made an absolute cock of the world in general and I hope that one day he will get his comeuppance - be it in the courts or second-time-lucky with a pretzel...
Anyway, enough of the stream-of-consciousness anti-Bush rant. He's too easy a target. So, here's hoping for Obama & The Democrats - a slightly less right-wing 'choice' in one of the less democratic of democracies.
In the immortal words of that chap in the film - 'you can do eet!'
