Okay, several things...

As some of you are aware my brother had a pretty scary health situation recently. The good news is that he seems to be cancer-free. The weird thing is they don't know what is/was wrong with him (this after thousands of dollars worth of CAT scans and other tests). In any case, the scare was enough to make him embark on a health and fitness kick. He's biking and exercising, watching his diet, and has quit smoking. I thank those of you who sent your kind thoughts and positive energy; I credit you all for causing the happy outcome. There are some really good-hearted people here! smile
BORING EDITORIAL FOLLOWS:

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

On gas prices. I've never seen anything like it; there doesn't seem to be any end in sight. It's too bad that the entire economy is so fossil-fuel dependent that high gas prices affect EVERYTHING else so completely. Now that financial constraints pretty much dictate it, people are driving less, taking mass transit more, and generally trying to conserve energy. These are things we all should have been doing anyway, of course, but it seems to be human nature to continue forward in behavior that is comfortable and convenient -- if not the most beneficial for us all in the long run -- than to exercise discipline and do what we know to be the right thing ( that is until we really HAVE to). I'm as guilty as anyone: I love the freedom, convenience, and privacy of my own car, and I have often kept the TV on when it's only serving as background noise. In a way, I believe that gas SHOULD be expensive. That way we don't take energy for granted and just go on our gluttonous way. But we also need a more rational energy economy, so that expensive fuel does not equate with expensive everything...

Also, The lawn mower died. That is, of course, perfectly timed with the arrival of my "economic stimulus" check. This is how life works. And who invented lawns, anyway? It's such a waste of time, money, and energy to maintain a ridiculous green carpet around our homes. I'd just make the entire yard a huge flower and vegetable garden, but that wouldn't mean less work, would it now?
Bye Kiddies! kiss

I'm so happy to hear about your brother. I know his health has been on your mind a lot. He's lucky to have a brother like you.
