Spent most of today interviewing members of the ILWU in San Pedro. July 5th is a memorial day for the ILWU and no work is performed in the West Coast ports. Every year they commemorate the deaths of the Long Shoreman who were killed in the 1934 West Coast Waterfront strike in which Long Shoreworkers in San Pedro and San Francisco were killed. There was a general strike in San Francisco in the aftermath.
I got several great interviews. The membership of that union have a tremendous sense of history and a great sense of pride in the radical democratic tradition.

Glad to hear there's at least one strong union left in the US. You even say the word union around here (Florida) and you're fired, and there ain't shit you can do.
