Back from DC. I hate traveling for work. It means 15 hour days, 4 hours of sleep a night, crappy food, and time away from the people I love. I did get to see Obama speak. He addressed about 2500 Building Trades members from across the US and got an amazing response especially considering most of the unions that have endorsed in this race have endorsed Hillary--the exception being the pipe trades and the laborers who endorsed Obama.
Being from the "labor press" of sorts, I got to sit in the press section. I was curious to what the "real" reporters were doing during Obama's speech. Only one of them was taking notes on the actual speech. Of the other two, one was writing emails, and the other was on the phone.
Yesterday we went around to various members of Congress from to agitate around the recent attack on some union organizers and other issues. I learned that my Congressman Xavier Becerra is not an asshole and that Barbara Boxer's Leg. Aide is hot.
Tomorrow I will be covering the LA County Federation of Labor's rally to mark the ending of the three day Hollywood to the Docks march.
Be well, Ninjas.
