2:30 in the morning... I can not get to sleep... I have a really important test tommorrow, which I will probably have to take half-awake... This has happened before... Not much fun when you can't keep your eyes open to concentrate...
Whenever this happens (not being able to fall asleep), I listen to Leonard Bernstein conduct the New York Philharmonic through Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings", followed by Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis". Both are beautiful and haunting pieces, and "Fantasia..." follows the first selection in mood and emotion almost as if it was written to. (There's more content on the disc, but those two are my favorite).
I try not to listen to these too often, as I want to savor the music instead of overindulge in it...
That won't be a problem now though... I can't find the cd...

Also- at least once a week, at some point farther along than drowsiness, but not quite at sleep, I get startled and wake up suddenly. I have the feeling that someone is standing near my bed... My friends told me that it's my spirit leaving my body at the onset on unconsciousness, seeing itself in the mirror by my bed, becoming scared and quickly returning to my body. I wake as it's coming back, and that's what I perceive as someone standing near me. (My friends said this belief came from a certain society; but I can not remember which one right now).
Since it's me standing next to me, I suppose this is fine...
Eternal Sunshine is so good. I'm really sad that I only got to see it once. It's my own lazy fault though. That and the general masses that don't recognize an amazing movie they should be spending their money on instead of Walking Tall.
I used to have the sleep problem you're talking about. I was actually going to write in my journal about it. When you're just falling asleep (or just waking up) your body enters a state of paralysis. Sometimes you can still be "awake" but have dreamlike visions appear to you.
Seeing a figure next to you while in this state is not uncommon. Even if there is an explanation for it they still used to scare me. Sometimes I would also feel as if something was trying to pull me out of my bed. There was some more frightening stuff that happened but I won't get into it here. I thought for a while I was under some kind of spiritual attack.
