I'm going to do 3 separate posts of photos from my Europe trip since there are so many. I had SUCH A GREAT TIME!!! Since I visited Berlin first I'll start here... enjoy!

Berlin is such a fascinating city! So much culture! So much to see and do! Definitely a place you need to stay in for several days though. It would be really difficult to spend just a day or two here. The longer you are in Berlin the more you come to love it... anyway, let me know what you all think of the photos!

Alexanderplatz - near where we stayed. There was a lot of cool stuff to do around here. Berlin is known for its snack culture so there are lots of cool little places to grab a light bite to eat... and lots of little brat stands of course. The public transportation is outstanding over there so I wanted to make sure I included the subway in this photo.

Kaiser-Wilhelm Bell Tower - damaged during WWII. We just kind of stumbled across this on our way to the Helmut Newton museum (which is fantastic). This is one of the most famous landmarks in Berlin. They left it standing after WWII as a constant reminder... I guess I'm a sucker for symbolism.

Berliner Dom

Reichstag - German Parliament

Jewish Synagogue - the largest in Berlin and it was actually saved from being burned down during Kristallnacht, or "Crystal Night" when many other Jewish synagogues, stores and apartments were vandalized or burned down.

Other cool stuff

Largest beers ever - I laughed my ass off when the waiter brought these over! We asked for large beers and boy did we get them! This is my buddy Mark that I was traveling with by the way.

Brandenburg Gate - you might remember seeing the Nazis marching under this gate in some of the old WWII video clips

Holocaust Memorial - very powerful... it's made to look like a graveyard when you're walking through it and it looks like ocean waves from overhead. Walking through it was one of my most memorable experiences of the whole trip.

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp - this was another powerful experience. This was more of a work camp than a death camp (like Auschwitz) but it is unique in that the Russians later used it to detain Nazi POW's after WWII and later on through the Cold War.

"Work Brings Freedom" - also found at Auschwitz

Baby Bush - actual ad in the airport... go USA foreign policy! frown

More to come from Budapest and Amsterdam soon! Leave me some comments!
