I went to help my grandparents pack their belongings yesterday morning, with my dad. They are moving into a retirement home. I stood on the back porch of the house my grandfather built thirty-five years ago, and looked down the hill over rural Gresham and farther on to the bare sloops of Mt. Hood, and realized I was staring at a view I had grown up with and was seeing it in a completely different light than I ever had before.
I consider myself a sentimental creature. Fall always makes me nostalgic, and I've never had a problem with repressing emotions or being insensitive, except, it seems, when it comes to my family. I've always ignored emotions that were connected to them, but up there on the house, collecting some tapestries from my grandparents walls because I couldn't stand the idea of them being thrown out or not seeing them ever again, I realized how important they are in my life, especially with my cousin missing.
(Driving from their house to get lunch I drove right next to her house. it made me sad to be out there and know that there was no way I could see my old best friend).
I couldn't handle familial drama for too long, and seeing my grandparents so obviously elderly made me desperately need to embrace my youth and freedom, by way of getting drunk and naked of course. So after work I traveled to the underwear dance party in NoPo with Katherine Lis and Libby. Bizzarely though we ran into Dan Eleysha and Savira on our way there, who piled into the car and warned us about the police that were crowding outside the party. We checked it out and decided it would be prudent to take head elsewhere, although I did duck into the house for a bit to see an abundance of hipster youth in varying degrees of undress. We headed of to Lis's, and got some incredibly cheap wine to drink. As dissapointing as it was that I was unable to party with scantily clad women it was still great to reconnect with old friends. We had an interesting cabbie on the way home who turned out to be a cousin of one of our friends.
This morning I slept in and and then read Sandman comics before I got out of bed, and it was fantastic.
Life can be perfect if you let it.

This is such a sad blog... but it's really true. You don't notice yourself growing up, changing, molding, but you notice other people. The saddest thing in the world was the day I realised my parents were getting older. =(

I need a drunken shenanigan soon, fag.
