well, hate to kill the dream post so quickly, especially since it got some thoughtful and helpful replies (thanks to those of you who commented), but... TATTOODLES!!!!!
my artist nicknamed this one "the ghoul":
it's another drawing by Away, the drummer for Voivod, this time taken from the interior art for the Nothingface album, specifically the drawing for the final track on the album, "Sub-Effect" (the lyrics on my inner arm are from that album's penultimate track, "Into My Hypercube"). always loved the art Away did for the Voivod albums. in fact, i've already booked an appointment for Jan 8 next year, my artist is going to look at some other Away work and freehand some ideas based on it to fill up the rest of the empty areas on the top of that arm.
my original idea for this one was to have it start in black at the bottom and fade into dark blue at the top. turned out that wouldn't really work b/c some of the stuff in the top of it needed black outlines to make sure the color stayed in place once added. soooo... we decided instead to leave the black parts from the original as they were. but i really wanted some blue in this thing, so my artist took the parts that were a grey-ish purple in the original and did the same type of shading with a few different hues of blue instead. as he was going i happened to have my head resting right beside the original he was using for reference and the idea to do the eye in orange popped into my head (very complimentary color to blue IMO). he agreed it was a good idea and would make the eye stand out. then i saw him shaking up a bottle of white ink. "oooh, white?" "yep". he used it to color in those "bolts" that run down the body.
i'm pretty stoked with how it turned out because the blue makes it look even MORE metallic than the original, IMO.
then had sushi afterward - yum!
so that was my day

Thank you tons for commenting on my set in MR, happy holidays!!!! Oh btw I only have 2 of the sins left to get but they arent going to be done until I get some of the stuff that goes with them done!
