first post from new laptop!!!!

so.... this area I live in... has a population base of around 150,000 - including outlying/rural areas. the vast majority of this population is white. when we moved here 7 years ago, there were no Indian restaurants or sushi joints. there are now 1 and 2 of each, respectively. I could probably count on both hands the number of asian or indian people I've met around here. there is a fairly significant french-speaking African population here, b/c of the french-only University. with the exception of the local music/art scenes, attitudes around here tend to be fairly old-fashioned and, for the most part, culturally uninformed.

my point?

in an area like this, when one is perhaps the ONLY cab driver in this particular city who is visibly of Middle-Eastern descent, driving one's cab with one's Aviation Manuals displayed prominently on one's dashboard may not be the wisest choice.
