I had an excellent Scene Study last night. The first duo went up to perform their scene, and it was none other than the opening scene of Sexual Perversity in Chicago (immortalized/bastardized as About Last Night(1986)). If you'll please indulge me in a flashback...

The year was 1996, and vyeseleph and I were both in our second years of our degrees (she: medicine, I: mathematical sci.) at the University of Liverpool. In the 1.5 years we'd been in the Broken Glass Capital of Europe, we'd made few friends. I was bored with my course.

One day, in the student union, I saw a poster: "4 Non-Actors wanted for Social Satire". I figured what the hell, and auditioned for the University of Liverpool Drama Society's production of Sexual Perversity in Chicago. And got cast in the part of Bernard Litko, misogynist. I found the project so thrilling compared to pretty much anything else I'd done in Liverpool. I got really into it. And Bernie rubbed off on me: I'm sure I'm more of an asshole than I otherwise would be (but also, probably, a more interesting person).

So, yeah, it was a good experience. It's what made me want to go into acting.

So, the two who performed it last night sucked, but it was their first time up. I loved watching it anyway.

After class, about half of us went to Chevy's — or Chili's — one of those wacky Tex-Mex joints. I drank one of their head-sized margaritas. Despite having had no dinner, it left me feeling only the slightest bit buzzed.

I don't really remember what it was for. I think it may have been something about phones, or online? Sorry, I'll keep an eye out for it this weekend. wink
