We went to the District of Columbia for our Independence Day cerebrations. We took the mode of transportation known as the Chinatown bus, buses that travel from Chinatown to Chinatown. $30 round-trip is pretty hard to argue with. Greyhound is like 80, and don't even mention Amtrak.

I read the address for the bus stop as "88 Broadway". What a moron. I should've realized something was wrong when I noticed the addres was at Wall Street: nowhere near Chinatown. We took a cab to the correct region of Manhattan ("88 East Broadway"). VSLF was shooting death-beams through her eyes at me the whole cabride. We made it onto the 10:50 AM bus at about 10:48. It didn't leave 'til 11:30. Ha!

About two-thirds of the way through the journey, something went horribly wrong in the back of the bus. I don't know which of my fellow passengers was responsible, but the lavatory began to emit the foulest fecal stench imaginable. It permeated the entire coach. It actually put me in kind of a good mood: all the looks of incredulous disgust people were giving each other. It was so rank it was very very funny.

So: DC. Stayed with friends of a friend (as did the friend), which is always a little awkward, especially when you're as shy as my ladyfriend and I. But theys was good people. We went to a barbecue, watched the fireworks at the Washington Monument, and traipsed around the mall in blistering heat on Saturday. If you are ever in Washington on a very hot day, make sure to check out the Hirschhorn Gallery. Not only is there some very cool art, but the lobby has these strong AC vents by the floor that will course through your entire outfit. It was then I knew that going commando had been the right decision.

So, now we're back. Going to download some Futurama and watch it this evening, I think.

Song stuck in my head:
Chicago - If you leave me now
