Mandatory survey at work. Completely anonymous, just say what you think.

A month or so later, my boss hands out printout with the results that seem to indicate he sucks as a manager. No, our names aren't on there, but he gets back percentages. So many percentage of your direct reports failed to either strongly agree or even agree to ...

Oh dear lord. I have zero issues with my boss. Apparently my coworkers see things COMPLETELY differently, and now we're having group sit-downs to discuss what's wrong and what could be done to make things better. Frankly, since the survey's, things have never been worse. Can I just do my flippin job.

So I'll throw out percentages now. 87.5% of the people that work for my boss, have a title that starts with 'Senior.' And people are upset that they don't get enough praise in their work. At the same time, they're frustrated because the boss doesn't make decisions for them. Excuse me, YOU are a senior. He's a manager of a diverse group. YOU should be making the decisions, and YES, he backs us up with our decisions (when those people are willing to actually make a hard decision).

/end rant

don't you love that corporate desire to fix what ain't broken.

what most people don't seem to realize is that simply getting the job done is plenty. if you want to feel good about it, you need to find some intrinsic motivation.

i say this because i work in the uber touchy feely academic world, and sometimes i swear we spend more time being encouraging than actually getting shit done, lol

was meandering costco and thought of calling you to see if you wanted to accompany, but was overshopped and would have been bad company.
